After the ransomware attack two years ago which took many Hernando County websites offline starting Good Friday of last year the county has decided to go analog. Sure digital has some advantages, but having physical copies of information makes it more difficult to be targeted from half way across the world.
Hernando did have issues about 150 years ago with the analog version of files when somebody set fire to the courthouse burning many of the records. To prevent a repeat the files will be kept in a fireproof vault.
The commissioner loved the idea of moving to analog files. Commissioner district seven said he never really understood how they fit all those in that little computer. He was happy to see them getting more room as he feels that they must have been cramped in that little box.
The IT tech in the meeting attempted to butt in and explain that the files were not really kept in the server, but are changed to images and then to characters. This digitization allows them to store millions of documents inside the server. The commission voted to direct the county manager to fire that insolent chap.
The commissioner of district eight wanted to make the file smaller so they were easier to store. He suggested that they print them out on note cards to save space This idea was excitedly accepted by the other commissioners. Think of all the money we will save and how many more records we will be able to keep.
After this brilliant decision they decided to vote themselves a raise.
“We are saving taxpayers so much money and Florida’s CFO never seems to find savings that could be had in this county for some reason. He finds excess spending in counties all over the state, but he does not seem to find it here, so we must be doing a great job. We definitely deserve a raise,” commissioner of district eight said.
