Hernando County Government Saves a Billion Dollars
The Hernando County Government has come up with a plan that saves a billion dollars. The chairman explained that if we just change the color of the text from red to black, it switches from something we have to pay to something that is being paid. By doing this to 500 million in money owed in excel the county government was able to add a billion dollars to their budget balance. People were surprised when we billed them for doing work, but it was a huge money maker for the county.
Bethany Hamilton ever the spoil sport said, “this just an accounting trick that did not save Hernando County any money. Even though you changed the color of the numbers your creditors are still going to want to be paid. I see this leading to lawsuits that cost the county money and you will still have to pay your bills.”
“It was pure genius on our part why did no one else think of this before” said Head of Accounting Max S. “This is the kind of thinking that they don’t teach you in accounting school,” said local accountant Will B. Indieblack.
With the local government’s success with their billion dollar savings, they started out by bringing all the road projects in house. We spend tons of money on road paving and we looked at the laws and discovered we can do it in house. This is going to save so much money. It can’t be very hard, lots of people build roads. Johnny over in accounting has experience, he put millings down on his driveway. We figure by bringing it in house we can save all the money we currently spend on building roads.
We tried to look at small changes to save money, but that took too long. Since we are geniuses, we can come up with huge savings easily. We don’t have to hunt down little efficiencies. That takes time and is really tedious.
